About the project
The project “Professionelles Lehrerhandeln zur Förderung fachlichen Lernens unter sich verändernden gesellschaftlichen Bedingungen” (Professional teachers´ actions to promote subject-based learning under changing social conditions, ProfaLe) at Universität Hamburg is funded as part of the joint Qualitätsoffensive Lehrerbildung (teacher education quality campaign) run by the German federal government and the German states using funds from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
The project is designed to improve teacher education through coordination of the subject-based, subject-specific didactic, educational, and practical school-related components of curricular-based education and aims to scientifically examine the efficacy of these measures with regards to the development of professional teaching skills.
Curriculum development is structured in four key action areas:
- cooperation between subjects and subject-specific didactics
- linguistic-cultural heterogeneity
- inclusion
- cross-phase cooperation
In each of these action areas, the project examines how to successfully develop networked professional knowledge, including cognitive, situation-specific, and affective-motivational components of teaching competence in regard to selected teaching subjects (or professional vocational-technical subjects).
The newly developed curricula will be permanently anchored in teacher education degrees in Hamburg. Furthermore, results will stimulate development processes at other universities and expand the base of knowledge in teacher education research.
